Landfill
Landfill results in a total loss of rare earth metals and other valuable raw materials leading to the potential exhaustion of some of these resources in years to come. The additional cost to business and the environment associated with replenishing these materials by further extraction and manufacture is enormous. The Circular Economy strategy clearly demonstrates that savings to business and the environment are achievable, through better management of a wide range of used products and materials and the use of remanufacturing and recycling processes to retain them in the supply chain.
Remanufacturing via APDI Ltd provides an opportunity to return to the supply chain a huge quantity of product otherwise destined for disposal, driving significant financial benefits to our customers.
APDI achieve this and supports the Circular Economy strategy by
- Introducing back into the supply chain products that perform equal to, or exceeding the performance of the original part, whilst retaining much of the base raw materials.
- Waste streaming of any residual materials that cannot be used in the remanufacturing process optimising the opportunity of recycling.
- Identifying during the remanufacturing processes failure modes that can be communicated to the OE design teams, enabling product life cycle improvements to both the new and remanufactured product.

Learn the failure modes- Critical to know the reman process will capture all failure causes. Develop re-use criteria for all components.
Ensure capability of new materials. OE materials/components preferred. Rigorous field trials. In-house testing to ensure functionality and life.
Understand assembly requirements and settings- dedicated tooling and fixtures to provide capability. Fully trained workforce participating in the development of the process and FMEA’s. Robust final inspection. 100% machine test often used. Continual improvement as process matures. Build team involvement.
